Academic Courses Utilizing Jjodel

Jjodel is actively used in academia to empower students and researchers in Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) and software development practices. Below is an overview of the courses where Jjodel has been adopted:

University of L’Aquila, Italy

As the birthplace of Jjodel, the University of L’Aquila was the first institution to adopt it. Initially introduced experimentally during the Advanced Modeling Techniques course in the Master’s Degree Program in Computer Science for the academic year 2023/2024, Jjodel received positive feedback from students. Following this success, it was officially integrated into the Model-Driven Engineering course within the same program during the AA 2024/2025.

These courses emphasize the practical application of software engineering principles and MDE techniques, using Jjodel to enhance learning and project-based outcomes. The platform’s online nature eliminates complex installation procedures, allowing students to focus on productive tasks. Remarkably, approximately 75-80% of the students, already familiar with JSX, seamlessly developed complex concrete syntax definitions, demonstrating Jjodel’s accessibility and effectiveness.

Here you can find the results of a survey we submitted to the students of the MDE course.

Mälardalen University, Sweden

At Mälardalen University, Jjodel is a cornerstone of the MDE course in the Master’s Degree Program in Computer Science. Students use Jjodel to design, develop, and optimize software systems using MDE approaches. By offering hands-on learning opportunities, Jjodel bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enabling students to tackle real-world challenges with confidence.

ICT PhD Program – University of L’Aquila, Italy

In the ICT PhD Program at the University of L’Aquila, Jjodel is a core component of a specialized 12-hour course for doctoral students. The tool supports advanced research and training in MDE, offering robust capabilities for prototyping and validating innovative concepts. This course fosters creativity and equips researchers with cutting-edge methodologies to drive innovation in the field.
